Table of contents with TOC styles

You generate a table of contents from paragraph styles and assign heading levels. In a book, chapter headings can use a different entry style from subheadings. A named TOC style stores the rules for entry styles, page numbers, leaders and alphabetical sorting. You can make entries hyperlinks and output PDF bookmarks, including contents for the whole book.

How to do it

1. Apply paragraph styles to headings.
2. Open «Layout» › «Indexes and contents» › «Table of contents …».
3. Assign paragraph styles to levels and set page numbers and leaders.
4. After pagination changes, run «Update tables».
