The contrast check compares text and background against WCAG at 4.5 : 1, or 3 : 1 for large type. Large type starts at 18 pt, or 14 pt for bold type. For a municipal brochure, check grey captions and white headlines on coloured shapes. A screen view simulates protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia or greyscale, while the Design panel displays the LIX readability index. In a tagged PDF, form fields receive labels and formulas receive their own structural tags with alternative text. The vision simulation leaves exports unchanged.

How to do it

  1. Open «File › Preflight …».
  2. Review contrast findings in the report.
  3. Choose a simulation under «View» › «Simulate color vision deficiency».
  4. Read LIX under «Text amount» in the Design panel.

Limits

For images, gradients or ambiguous backgrounds, the contrast check reports that it cannot evaluate contrast.
