A print PDF that checks itself

built to PDF/X-4, the label is only set when the built-in check passes; otherwise the export says why. Not an independent certification

Where to find itFile › Export …

Print export builds the PDF according to PDF/X-4 and then checks the finished file. The check reads back the output intent, embedded fonts, colour spaces and page boxes among other properties. For a magazine delivery, this shows whether the generated file meets the built-in requirements. The PDF/X-4 identification appears in the file only after the check passes. Otherwise, export explains the reasons so you can make corrections before delivery.

How to do it

  1. Open «File › Export …».
  2. Choose PDF and set «Default» to PDF/X-4.
  3. Review the summary and start with «Export».
  4. Read the check result before delivery.

Limits

The built-in plausibility check is not an independent certification and does not replace the printer’s preflight.
