Text count shows characters with and without spaces, words, lines and paragraphs for the selection, story and document. Overset identifies text that no longer fits in the available frames. For planning a book manuscript, Medusa also calculates standard lines of 55 and standard pages of 1800 characters including spaces. In story mode, you write in the story without using page design as the editing surface. Clicking overset there selects the text that does not fit. You can assess the length of a cut and then return to page composition.

How to do it

  1. Select the text frame.
  2. Open Window › Properties.
  3. Read the values under Text amount and, if needed, open View › Story mode.

Limits

Hidden conditional text, footnotes, field contents and soft hyphens are excluded from the text count.
