Where to find itFile › Place … (⌘D)

When placing a Word file, you map its paragraph and character styles to the layout’s styles. Medusa remembers the mapping for the next import and source refresh. Markdown and plain text can fill new pages and threaded text frames through autoflow. For a book manuscript, this lets you map editorial headings to the house design. Word exchange carries paragraph styles, emphasis, links and lists, and shared Google documents can be linked as refreshable text sources.

How to do it

  1. Select a text frame or place the text cursor.
  2. Open File › Place … and select the text file.
  3. Map the offered styles for a Word file.
  4. Check text flow and the source link after import.

Limits

Creating a new mapped style bases it on the body style; it does not copy the complete Word style design.
